Originally conceived as a luxury housing development for Barcelona's elite by Eusebi Güell, Park Güell was designed by Antoni Gaudí between 1900 and 1914. When the residential project failed, it was sold to the city and opened as a public park in 1926. Today, its Monumental Zone requires a ticket to manage crowds and preserve the fragile mosaic work. The Serpentine Bench: A World Record View

The crowning feature of Park Güell's main terrace is the Banc de Trencadís, or the Serpentine Bench. At 110 meters long, it holds the record for the longest bench in the world. Designed by Gaudí's collaborator Josep Maria Jujol, its ergonomic shape was reputedly modelled by having a workman sit in wet plaster. The entire surface is covered in 'trencadís'—a mosaic of broken ceramic tiles, a signature of Catalan Modernisme.

From this vantage point, you get one of the most sweeping panoramic views of Barcelona, stretching from the nearby hills down to the Mediterranean Sea, with the Sagrada Família prominent on the skyline. It’s more than just a place to sit; it’s a functional sculpture that perfectly integrates art, nature, and architecture, embodying Gaudí's core principles.
